Wearing a dress whilst on my period. Girls answer please!?

I am going out tomorrow night and my dress is hmmmm well, rather short and im on my period. I wear pads and i've never used tampons and don't really want to start wearing them. So what do i do, what if i leak or something stupid like that because i will be obviously drinking and dancing. Im even considering staying in because im that scared about it and sometimes i get the worst period pains ever and that would be really embarrasing if it happend whilst i was out. Is there anyway i can hide the pad? I don't want this to get in the way of me having a good time
